FROM THE DESK OF FR. MARC SHERLOCK

A Happy & Blessed Easter to all!  As we renew our Baptismal Promises today we are grateful to a God who loves us so much and wants to share life with us forever.

At the Easter Vigil Mass last night Lauryl DeAnne Firman, Jeffrey Dain Haney and Keri Li Haney were fully initiated into the Catholic Church receiving the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation & First Eucharist.  Jeffrey & Keri’s daughter, Keira Irene Haney, was also baptized.  Christine Renee Peters was received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church by making a Profession of Faith and receiving the sacraments of Confirmation & First Eucharist.  Brandye Catherine Genereux, a baptized Catholic, completed her Christian Initiation receiving the sacraments of Confirmation & First Eucharist.  Congratulations to them all!

Our ISPD Long Range Advancement Process continues to strengthen our parish.  ISPD Committees have plans to revive Hispanic Ministry, develop a volunteer Stewardship Committee and send email information, including the weekly bulletin, to interested parishioners.  Plans are also being made to upgrade and update our parish website and keep the information on it current.  We are also looking into seeing if there is an interest in an evening weekday Mass.  I am so grateful to all parishioners who are giving of their time and working so hard on all of our seven ISPD Committees.

My thanks to Mike Droesch, our Maintenance Supervisor, who has been diligently working over the last several months with roofing companies and our Archdiocesan insurance to repair our church roof after the wind damage of last September 14.  Unfortunately the Phase I Building Project roof was not installed properly.  This has complicated the process.  We have also been delayed by the weather.  At the time of this writing we are hoping that permanent repairs will start soon.

LITURGICAL COLOR CHANGE – The Church directs that the vestments worn by the priest and the drapery used in the decorations of the altar correspond to the color that is prescribed for the office of the day.  There are five Liturgical Colors:  Green Violet, White, Red and Rose.

White is for celebration and used for the Christmas Season, Easter Season and Fests of Saints who are not martyrs.  Therefore, the altar clothe, the priest vestments and the drapery are white.  The next change will be Pentecost Sunday.

ROB MUHLENKAMP

DEACON ORDINATION

Rob Muhlenkamp will be ordained a Deacon on Saturday, April 25, by Coadjutor Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr.  Please keep him in your prayers as he takes this important step to the priesthood.  Rob will be the Deacon and preach at all our weekend Masses on May 9-10.  A reception for him will follow each Mass.

NEEDY BASKET will have a food drive on April 25th & 26th.  Your donations are greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU to Marilyn Helke, Betty & Dale Voisard, Shirley Kremer, Mary Alice Haley, Jan Haley and Allison Haley for helping assemble the Easter Baskets for the home bound in our parish.  A special thank you to Atha Toon for organizing this ministry.  Atha is a very special person in our parish.  Also thanks to Jeanne Koch’s 6th grade PSR class for delivering the baskets.

ATTENTION GOLFERS (DUFFERS)  The St. John the Baptist Duffers Golf League is looking for additional participants. We currently have eighteen (18) teams and have room for twenty-two (22). This is a couples’ nine-hole league; however, you do not have to play with your spouse or significant other. Anyone of the opposite sex will suffice with a minimum age of 18. We play Friday evenings at Homestead GC with tee times beginning at 4:30pm and ending at 6:15pm (subject to change depending on the number of couples). The format is a two- person scramble, so if you are not a very good player, you can rely on your partner to help you. This puts the emphasis (for most of us) on fun rather than competition. If you can’t or don’t want to be a regular, you may choose to be on our sub list. Also, after golf each Friday, there is always a party with plenty of food and drink. These are hosted by one or two of the Duffers couples. Our “kickoff” meeting and dinner will be held April 17 at 6:00pm in the Parish Banquet Hall. Golf begins the following Friday, April 24 and runs through August 21. If you are interested and want more information, please contact John or Alice Sferro at 890-2515, 272-9407 (cell), or mmbenito@att.net

Rice Bowls - There will be a container in the Gathering Area for the next couple weeks to put your Rice Bowls with your donations for Catholic Relief Services. Youth can also turn their Rice Bowls in to their PSR teachers. Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters around the world who are being helped through your generosity. Thank you for participating in this Lenten Program.

K OF C NEWS - Application forms for SCHOLARSHIPS will be in the Narthex and should be completed and turned in by the end of April.  You must be a high school senior or older seeking further education.

April is Donate Life Month  - Are you an Organ and Tissue Donor?  If not, have you ever thought of becoming one?  April is Donate Life Month.   Thousands of Americans are in need of vital organs and tissues. For many, the chance to live a full life won’t come unless more of us consider organ, eye and tissue donation. Each one of us has the potential to save up to eight lives as an organ donor and touch another fifty as a tissue donor. To learn how to document your decision to become a donor, go today to www.donatelife.net.

CSS Refugee Employment Help Needed - The Refugee Resettlement Program at Catholic Social Services is looking for parishioners with work experience to join us at an Employment Networking meeting.  The meeting will focus on entry level positions for Refugees.  While times are hard for many of us, Refugees from war torn areas come with additional disadvantages.  Perhaps you are retired and have knowledge and skills to share.  We need you.  Bring your ideas and suggestions. Help us learn how to reach employers in the Miami Valley who will be willing to give a Refugee a chance. The meeting will be held at Catholic Social Services-1046 Brown St. on April 14, 5:30-7:30 pm.   RSVP to Lynn Adams, 223-7217, ext. 1104.

SONG OF EASTER

Easter lilies! Can you hear

What they whisper, low and clear?

In Dewy fragrance they unfurl

Their splendor sweet, their snow and gold.

Every beauty-breathing bell,

News of heaven has to tell.

Listen to their mystic voice,

Hear, O mortal, and rejoice!

Hark, their soft and heavenly chime!

Christ is risen for all time!
