ST. JOHN’S IS GOING PAPERLESS!

Beginning July 1, 2009, St. John’s will be making a conscious effort to be good stewards of the gifts God has given to us.  Paper, styrofoam, and throw away plastic products will no longer be provided for use in our facility.  Hopefully, this will be a relatively simple change since we have all the dishes, cups, etc. in the kitchen and have the dishwasher to make clean-up easy. It takes over 500 years for a Styrofoam cup to disintegrate, so our landfills are going to overflow fast if this usage is not curtailed.  Please realize that taking care of our planet and God’s gifts to us is not an easy task, but one we should all undertake.

PSR Reminder

7th and 8th Grade PSR will meet Sunday evening, April 19th, at 6:30 PM.  Our session on “Valuing Life” includes a guest presentation from Dave Enneking, Presidsent, Miami County Right to Life.

JOHN’S FESTIVAL FLEA MARKET will be accepting donations following the Tipp City Community Garage Sale on 2 May.  The St John’s garage will be open 2 May from 4:00 – 8:00 for parishioners to drop off their garage sale leftovers.  All other donations will be accepted the week of 5 July, during Flea Market set-up.  Please: no clothes, TVs, or computers.  Call Christine Sauls, 667-7182, if you have questions.  Thank you!

NEEDY BASKET will have a food drive on April 25th & 26th.  Your donations are greatly appreciated.

In Oromia, Ethiopia, drought has destroyed entire regions of crops, devastating the local agriculture industry and economy.  In places like Oromia, where sustainability is based entirely on agriculture, food securing is alarmingly low.  At a local Catholic church in the Oromia region, hundreds of children are receiving therapeutic milk and medical treatment from Catholic Relief Services (CRS).  In addition to funding the important international relief work of CRS, the Catholic Relief Services Collection supports legal and resettlement services for refugees, advocacy, and disaster/emergency relief.  When you donate to The Catholic Relief Services Collection, you give hope.  Please be generous in next week’s Collection.

First Communion: The next two weekends those who have been preparing for First Communion will be at the 5:00 Mass April 25 and 10:30 Masses April 26 & May 3 to celebrate First Communion with our parish community. Pray for them and welcome them.

Liturgical Bits & Bytes

EASTER

It’s here! The great feast of Easter is upon us! Alleluia! Easter is, without a doubt, the biggest feast of the Church year. It’s HUGE! We have taken six weeks of Lent to prepare. Now we will take eight weeks to celebrate the reality of Easter. The church is filled with an atmosphere of joy. The new life of spring that comes from the earth is yet another sign of the Easter mystery. Easter is a constant reminder that, like the flower that comes forth from the seed buried in the ground, our faith is a promise of resurrection. The Easter season will continue until Pentecost Sunday.

April is Donate Life Month  - Are you an Organ and Tissue Donor?  If not, have you ever thought of becoming one?  April is Donate Life Month.   Thousands of Americans are in need of vital organs and tissues. For many, the chance to live a full life won’t come unless more of us consider organ, eye and tissue donation. Each one of us has the potential to save up to eight lives as an organ donor and touch another fifty as a tissue donor. To learn how to document your decision to become a donor, go today to www.donatelife.net.
