Liturgical Bits & Bytes:

BAPTISM - PRIVATE

Every once in awhile, a couple preparing for the baptism of their child will say, "We would like a 'private' baptism.” The response is, "There is no such thing." Baptism is by its nature a public sacrament and so it should be celebrated as such. It is a statement that we are choosing that this child become part of a faith community as well as live according to a particular church tradition.

BABY BOTTLE PROJECT - The baby bottles that were passed out at all the Masses last November are to collect loose change/cash/checks for the Under Five Feeding Program in Nairobi that our Parish has committed to support. Please consider keeping the bottles and using them as a "bank" to save your donations. When the bottle is full, it can be emptied in the Nairobi basket by the Baptismal Font. Keep the bottle and refill it. If you have turned in your bottle, please consider taking another one. There are extra bottles in the basket in the Gathering Area. This is an ongoing program and St. Johns is the main outside source of income for it. Without our donations many children would  be underfed or not fed at all. Your support is needed and greatly appreciated. Thank you.

COMFORT FOR THE GRIEVING HEARTS

You don’t have to go through it alone.

St. Patrick Church will be offering these recovery seminars and support groups to our parish and local community. The programs are weekly seminar/support groups for people grieving the cessation of a close personal relationship either by death or divorce. It’s a place where you can be around people who understand how you are feeling and are able to offer you encouragement. At GriefShare, DivorceCare and DC4K (DivorceCare for Kids), you’ll learn valuable information that will help you through this difficult time in your life. We will feature videotape seminar sessions with nationally recognized experts on grief, divorce and recovery topics.

These programs will be held in the St. Patrick Parish Center, 444 E. Water St. upstairs in Room 1 and will begin at 7 PM and end at 8:30 PM.

GriefShare will begin on Wednesday, March 4

DivorceCare & DC4K (GradesK-6) will begin on Thursday,  Feb. 26

All three programs will run for 13 weeks.

Sitting by the Well:  Meeting Jesus in Prayer with Theresa Leonetti of Renew International/Why Catholic.  Jesus waits by the well, only desiring to give you living water. Like the woman of Samaria, will you take the time? Will you make the time to meet him there?   This is a blessed opportunity to listen to the Master speak the words of everlasting life, to answer him in silence, in praise and in song.

In addition, social science has found that natural methods of family planning enhance the interpersonal communication of married couples in a number of ways.  St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Troy will hold classes this Spring to teach the Ovulation Method of NFP.  The classes will meet on Saturdays, February 28, March 28 and April 18 from 1:30pm to 4:00pm in Rooms 1, 2, 3 in the Parish Center. The cost is $35 per couple.
