ST. JOHN’S E.C.P. REGISTRATION

St. John’s Early Childhood Program is a developmental preschool for children ages three to five. We provide a nurturing Christian environment with caring teachers who carry out our planned curriculum.   Morning sessions are from 8:40-11:15 while afternoon sessions are from 12:25-3:00.  The younger children come two days a week, the older children attend three days and the pre-K class meets four days. REGISTRATION FOR THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR WILL BEGIN ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7, AT 8:45 A.M. FOR PARISHIONERS AND FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN IN THE PROGRAM.   Even if you have called to inquire about the program previously or have put your name on the waiting list, you still need to register on January 7. You, or someone you designate, may come to room 101 in the center to put your child’s name on the appropriate class list and pick up a registration packet which must be filled out and returned within a week. It is advisable to register as early in the day as possible on that date since some sessions fill up quickly. You may also call and leave a detailed message.  However, spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis.  For more information, please call Sally Minnich at 667-2629.

RCIA: On Dec. 22, the RCIA group met and discussed the sacraments. The first ritual for RCIA inquirers, the Rite of Welcoming, is planned for next Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 at the 10:30 Mass. The inquirers will be discerning in the coming weeks whether they wish to become catechumens/candidates for full communion. Please keep them in your prayers.

Confirmation 2008-09: Please remember them in your prayers. The Confirmation candidates will be coming before the parish Feb.1 to celebrate their readiness for the sacrament of Confirmation. The next session for the Candidates and their parents is January 11, 2009. I would like to invite the entire parish to a presentation entitled The Church's Place in the Wider Culture: Dialogue with the Media in the Banquet Hall. The speaker will be Ms. Dennie Steritz, who teaches a course of understanding media at Carroll High School. Some questions she will consider are these: What message do the media communicate? How do the various media get their message across? What should our response as Catholic Christians be to the media and its message?

Liturgical Bits & Bytes:

Announcements Following the post-communion prayer are the announcements. They let people know what is coming up in the parish during the next week or weeks. This is part of the dismissal rite, the final section of the mass. It gives us an idea of some of the ways in which we can carry on our Eucharist outside of mass.

"CARD MINISTRY" - Have you dabbled in card making, stamping or scrapbooking? How about sharing your "talent" to benefit your parish and fellow parishioners? In response to input from the ISPD Town Hall Meeting, the Evangelization and Outreach Implementation Team would like to oversee the development of a Card Ministry. We are looking for individuals with some experience in card making, stamping or scrapbooking who would like to help organize and/or participate in this ministry. Family heartMARRIAGE MOMENTS - The feast of the Epiphany celebrates the three wise men bringing gifts to the baby Jesus. Why not be wise and bring your spouse three compliments on Jan. 6. Consider your beloved's physical appearance, a unique talent, and an act of kindness.

PARENTING POINTERS - It's a new year. Give your child a chance to be a new person. Too often we type our kids. He's so lazy. She's so self- centered. If you think you know your children well, you may; but give them a chance to prove one of your negative stereotypes wrong. They might surprise you.

THE CATHOLIC TELEGRAPH – The New Years brings optimism, resolution, and challenge.  It’s all a part of our journey.  In many ways the New Year is a new chapter, an end and a beginning.  On many journeys most find maps as a helpful tool in planning.  The Catholic Telegraph is a map of faith.  The powerful gospel journeys on and each day the faithful of our archdiocese add their verse.  The Catholic Telegraph is filled with stories of faith in each issue.  As the archdiocesan newspaper you’ll receive information about the church on a local, national, and international basis, a way to become better informed.  The Catholic Telegraph is a great learning tool and has been for over 175 years.  Support your parish’s Adult Faith Formation program with The Catholic Telegraph!  The cost is less than 50-cents each week.  You’ll get 51 issues for just $24.00.  Order your subscription today and call (513)421-3131!
