MEMORIAL DAY MASS AT CEMETERY – Monday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. Father Robert Monnin will be celebrating mass at St. John’s cemetery.  All are welcome.  In case of rain, mass will be in church.

ST. JOHN’S IS GOING PAPERLESS!

Beginning July 1, 2009, St. John’s will be making a conscious effort to be good stewards of the gifts God has given to us.  Paper, styrofoam, and throw away plastic products will no longer be provided for use in our facility.  Hopefully, this will be a simple change since we have all the dishes, cups, etc. in the kitchen and have the dishwasher to make clean-up easy.

THANKS, THANKS, THANKS – Paul Dziedzic has resigned from the Maintenance Committee after many years of serve to the parish.  We would like to thank him for his service.  As always, we can use more members for the Maintenance Committee. You can help with projects or just provide input in your area of expertise.  If you have any maintenance, construction or grounds keeping background and would like to help call Mike Droesch @ 623-0447.

CHURCH CLEANERS STILL NEEDED – We are still in need of cleaning people for the month of February.  It is only about and hour of you time for one month of the year.  This is a great service for the church and it gives you an hour of time with God with no distractions.  Call Flo Miller at 667-6823 if you can help in February.

“Bring Flowers of the Rarest”

Attention all children.  Before all the masses on the weekend of May 23rd & 24th, our parish children will take flowers to the Blessed Mother statue.  Everyone participating can bring flowers (or the parish will provide flowers).  The procession will assemble in the Narthex 10 minutes before mass begins.  This event will honor Mary, our mother and queen, in her special month.  Please see bulletin insert for more details.

MISSIONARY COOPERATION PLAN [MCP]

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Each year every parish in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati is assigned a missionary group to support.  This year we have been assigned the Diocese of Puerto Escandido, Mexico.  The second collection the weekend of May 30-31 will go to support that Diocese.  The priest assigned to preach will not leave Mexico to be with us for health safety reasons.  Please make out all checks to: St. John the Baptist Church.  We will send one parish check to support this missionary effort.

PARISH FLEA MARKET  All donations will be accepted the week of  July 5th, during Flea Market set-up for the parish festival.  Please: no clothes, TVs, or computers.  Call Christine Sauls, 667-7182, if you have questions.  Thank you!

St. John's MOM's Group - The St. John’s Mom’s Group would like to invite all mothers of young children to attend our meetings and/or events.  The group meets twice a month on Thursday mornings from 9:15 to 11:00 a.m.

May 28th – Picnic & Play

PRESCHOOL OPENINGS  St. John’s Early Childhood Program is a developmental preschool with a nurturing Christian environment.  The planned curriculum is taught by trained and caring teachers.  We currently have openings in two of our afternoon classes which meet from 12:30 till 3:00.  The Threes and Fours opening is in the Tuesday/Friday class while the Fours and Fives attend on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Please contact Sally Minnich at 667-2629 for more information or to schedule a visit.

Consider a Family Vacation Retreat - This summer, step out of your busy lives and celebrate your family’s sacredness.  Join us for a family vacation retreat in a peaceful setting on Governor’s Island, surrounded by Indian Lake.  Learn about your family strengths.  Deepen your love and appreciation for each other.  Sponsored by the Marianists, this retreat is a balanced time of prayer, worship, discussion and family activities.  Hike, swim, boat and fish with the kids.  Grow in family unity and spirituality and have fun together!

Dates for summer 2009 June 23-27- July 7-11 and July 14-18.

For further information and registration contact Anne Petratis at Anne.Petratis@khnetwork.org or at 937-395-8640.

BAPTISM PREP CLASSES - The next BAPTISMAL PREPARATION PROGRAM will be Sunday, June 7, 2009 in Room # 100 at 1:00 p.m.  This class is required prior to scheduling a Baptism.  Call the Parish Office (667-3419) to register.

ST. VINCENT HOTEL – To make the evening go smoothly, we need eleven volunteers.  The minimum age requirement for volunteers is 14 years, but anyone under 18 must still be accompanied by a parent.  Our next trip is next Sunday, May 24, 2009.  The McCrillis’s Why Catholic? group has volunteered to serve this month so no volunteers are needed but mark your calendar for June.  We will need your help.

TO THE PARISH FAMILY AT ST. JOHN’S – The family of Ruth “Joan” Holder wishes to express our sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the Christ-like compassion and generosity shown to us recently, since (as mom would say) “the angels came to take her home.”

The funeral mass was a beautiful celebration of her life.  The funeral luncheon was very much appreciated.  We were comforted by the opportunity to share warm memories with family and friends over such a wonderful meal.

Mom was so grateful to receive the Eucharist at home and more recently at SpringMeade.  Thank you to each of you who ministered to her through the Sacrament and through your friendship.  You truly made a difference in her life.

Mom and dad (Dale) were honored to be members of St. John’s for nearly 40 years.  They valued their faith, family and friendships.  Praying, playing and worshiping together with the St. John’s family made life complete for them.

Please accept our humble contribution in appreciation for the many gifts you’ve shared with our family over the years.  Blessing to you.  Very Sincerely, Dan Holder, Deanna (Holder) Fecher & David Holder
