PARISH OFFICE CLOSED

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2008 FROM 1:00-3:00 PM

HOME EUCHARIST

If you are unable to attend mass this week and would like to receive the Eucharist, call the Parish Office at 667-3419 before 3:30 on Friday or call Ann Fallert @ 667-3416 on Saturday and arrangements will be made for home communion.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with those serving our country at this time and with their loved ones at home.  We pray for a safe homecoming and that the world may one day be at peace.

NOTICE – We will not be taking intentions for daily or Sunday mass until further notice.  We have had an unusual number of deaths this year and the mass intentions are more than Father can fulfill this year.  We will only take mass intentions for members of the parish that have passed away recently.

RCIA UPDATE - Our November 3 session was on Scripture.  Dan Thomas led us through a history of our Bible which we learned isn't one book but a collection of books both of the Old and New Testament.  We learned that the certain parts of the Old Testament were written about a thousand years before the birth of Christ and the final book of the New Testament was probably written 80 to 100 years after Christ's death and resurrection.  The Bible consists of 73 books, 46 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.  The Church also teaches us that we also need to know about our Catholic tradition as passed on by the Apostles and their successors.  The Bible and our sacred tradition complement each other so that we can know the fullness of God's revelation.

Discipleship Retreat III

Immaculate Conception Parish’s “ite missa est” faith formation group presents the Discipleship Retreat III:  “Our Father; A Disciple’s Prayer” conducted by Fr. Satish on Saturday, November 22, 2008 starting at 9 am and ending at 1 pm in the church.  The fee per person is $10 which includes lunch.  Pre-registration is required.  For more information please call Immaculate Conception Parish, 2300 S Smithville Rd, Dayton, OH at 937-252-9919

Confirmation 2008: This past Sunday Bro. Mike O’Grady, S.M. came to lead the session. He began by asking for a volunteer. When Jessica Bruggeman came forward, he pointed out that her willingness to do this was the kind of risk all Christians are called to take. Bro. Mike then lead us in some communication experiences and pointed out various instances of good communication: listening attentively, giving non-verbal feedback to encourage the other person, greeting the person, etc. At the end he asked the group to share what was religious about what we had just done. People talked about the important of community, the need to welcome, accepting differences. The session was a wonderful experience of the goodness of one another and the challenges of being a community of sharing and welcoming.

There will be no Children’s Liturgy of the Word on Nov. 30, 2008.
