HOME EUCHARIST

If you are unable to attend mass this week and would like to receive the Eucharist, call the Parish Office at 667-3419 before 3:30 on Friday or call Ann Fallert @ 667-3416 or Lavonne Fleming @ 667-7313 on Saturday and arrangements will be made for home communion.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with those serving our country at this time and with their loved ones at home.  We pray for a safe homecoming and that the world may one day be at peace.

NOTICE – We will not be taking intentions for daily or Sunday mass until further notice.  We have had an unusual number of deaths this year and the mass intentions are more than Father can fulfill this year.  We will only take mass intentions for members of the parish that have passed away recently.

ARCHBISHOP DENNIS M. SCHNURR

On October 17, 2008 the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, appointed Bishop Dennis M. Schnurr, till now Bishop of Duluth, Minnesota to be Coadjutor Archbishop of Cincinnati.  He will assist Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk until he retires sometime in 2009 when he reaches age 75.  Archbishop Schnurr will then become the Archbishop of Cincinnati.  Welcome Archbishop Schnurr!

HOLY DAY-ALL SAINTS

Next Saturday, November 1, is the Solemnity of All Saints.  When this Holy Day falls on Saturday there is no obligation for Catholics to participate in Mass.  We will have Mass at 8:30 am that morning for those who wish to participate in Mass.

COMMEMORATION PRAYER SERVICE-SUNDAY, NOVEMBE 2

An evening prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. to remember the members of our parish who have died over the last year.  We would also like to remember relatives (parents, children, brother and sisters) of parishioners who have died since last November 2007.  A votive candle will be given to each family of the person remembered during this service.  If you would like to have your close relative remembered, please call the Parish Office by October 28th with their name, your relation, date of death and where they were from.  This will be a beautiful prayer service to remember our loved ones.

There will be a book in the back of church for anyone to put names of deceased loved ones, friends or anyone that should be remembered on the Feast of all Souls.

TATIANA CONCERT – Another Success! - For those of you who had the opportunity to attend the Tatiana (Tajci) concert last weekend you’ll know what we mean when we say it was amazing!  Tajci’s interpretation of “Let it Be, Mary’s Story” was beautiful and moving.  We are so happy and proud to host Tajci in concert for our parish family and as another part of our 150th Anniversary celebration.  Thank you to all those who helped in so many ways to make the evening a success:  The Parish Office Staff, Dan Thomas, Fr. Marc, Marie Newlin, Jim & Jeri Layer (Braxton & Sydney), Susan Willis, Steve & Jeanne Fairbanks (Sam & Audrey), Maria Fairbanks, Andrea Regelski, Janie Thompson, Susanne Vulgamore, Mary Cubick, Judie McKitrick, Darlene Lewis, Kathy McGrath, Lara Limbert, Doug Black, Rob Muhlenkamp and Amy Puthoff.

HOLY HOUR -   Our next Holy Hour is Tuesday, November 4, Election Day.  It is a good time to come and pray for all the issues and candidates for our city, state and country.  The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the altar from 7:00-8:00 p.m.   Come for the hour or for any part of the hour.

ST. JOHN CHOIRS PRODUCE CD - As part of the celebration of St. John's 150th anniversary, the choirs have produced a CD of music selections which should appeal to all.  This memento souvenir recording is available in the parish office.  A suggested donation of $10.00 is asked.  We appreciate your support of the St. John's Choirs.

CONGRATULATIONS!

RCIA: This past Monday the group met and saw a video on Eucharist entitled We Are Sent. Fr. Marc gave a presentation on the Mass and there was discussion and sharing afterward. Next week’s session will be moved to Sunday evening to take in Fr. Ken Overberg’s presentation.

How Would Jesus Vote, is a presentation by Fr. Ken Overberg, a Jesuit priest from Xavier University in Cincinnati. He will be reflecting on the U.S. Bishops’ document entitled Faithful Citizenship. There was a two-page summary of that document in last week’s bulletin. Here is a quote from that document:

#5 This statement highlights the role of the Church in the formation of conscience, and the corresponding moral responsibility of each Catholic to hear, receive, and act upon the Church’s teaching in the lifelong task of forming his or her own conscience. With this foundation, Catholics are better able to evaluate policy positions, party platforms, and candidates’ promises and actions in light of the Gospel and the moral and social teaching of the Church in order to help build a better world.

Fr. Overberg will be speaking here at St. John on Oct. 26, 6:00-8:00 PM on the principles that we can use in our decisions on voting. There will be time for questions and discussion. We will be meeting in the Church.

BABYSITTING: we have been trying for several months to get a coordinator and volunteers to continue offering babysitting at the 10:30 Mass. No one has come forward so we will no longer offer it. If there is interest and volunteers in the future we will resume. Please contact Dan Thomas if you have questions or suggestions at 667-3419 or thomasdan@woh.rr.com or in person.

REPORTING FINANCIAL MISCONDUCT
In a spirit of good stewardship, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has instituted a financial misconduct hotline to allow employees,
volunteers, vendors and other interested parties to report what they believe to be financial misconduct at any level - parish, deanery or archdiocese. As an additional safeguard, the hotline is administered by an independent third-party company, EthicsPoint. You may report a concern on this hotline either by calling one of EthicsPoint's trained specialists at 1-866-294-5256 or by visiting the website www.ethicspoint.com. There is also a link on the archdiocesan website,
www.CatholicCincinnati.com, under the label "To Report Financial Misconduct."
