HOME EUCHARIST

If you are unable to attend mass this week and would like to receive the Eucharist, call the Parish Office at 667-3419 before 3:30 on Friday or call Ann Fallert @ 667-3416 or Lavonne Fleming @ 667-7313 on Saturday and arrangements will be made for home communion.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with those serving our country at this time and with their loved ones at home.  We pray for a safe homecoming and that the world may one day be at peace.

NOTICE – We will not be taking intentions for daily or Sunday mass until further notice.  We have had an unusual number of deaths this year and the mass intentions are more than Father can fulfill this year.  We will only take mass intentions for members of the parish that have passed away recently.

NEW EUCHARISTIC MINISTER training is scheduled for Sunday, October 5th, after the 10:30 AM mass in room # 101.  This training is open to all adults and youth (7th Grade and up) that might be interested in this ministry.  All newly trained Eucharistic Ministers will be commissioned into this ministry on that Sunday, after which you may start signing up for mass dates.  If you will be attending the training, please contact Nat Phillips at 335-5835 or by e-mailing to nat.phillips@verizon.net.

VOLUNTEER NEEDED – We need a new coordinator for our Babysitting Service on Sunday mornings during the 10:30 a.m. mass.  MaDonna Horrocks has done an outstanding job getting this service started but needs to pass this job to someone else.  MaDonna will help you get acquainted with everything that needs to be taken care of.  Please give the office a call 667-3419 if you are interested.  This is a great service to our parish and one we hope to continue.  Thanks MaDonna, job well done.

ST. JOHN CHOIRS PRODUCE CD - As part of the celebration of St. John's 150th anniversary, the choirs have produced a CD of music selections which should appeal to all.  This memento souvenir recording will be available for the first time at the reception dinner following the 10:30 Mass on September 21st.  A suggested donation of $10.00 is asked.  We appreciate your support of the St. John's Choirs.

LADIES OF THE PARISH! - Mark your calendars NOW for the annual Women of Spirit Getaway Weekend at Cowan Lake on October 3-5.  Cost is only $65 per person and includes two nights lodging in very nice cabins, meals and other assorted ammenities.  A $25 deposit will hold your space and spaces are limited so act now.  You may drop off your deposit to the parish office or give it to Amy Puthoff.  Feel free to bring a friend.  If you have questions, call Amy at 667-6294

RCIA: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults has begun. We are meeting from 7:00-8:30 pm in Room 107; new people are welcome at any time. You can still invite anyone to join us.

Why Catholic? registration is this weekend after all masses.  Bill and Suzy Wilson will be speaking after all masses about their involvement over the past 3 years with Why Catholic?  The theme for this 6 week session is Christian Prayer; Deepening My Experience of God.

In this series, we will be discussing:

  • what is prayer
  • prayer in the Old Testament
  • Jesus and Mary teach us to pray
  • Forms of prayer
  • Sources and ways of prayer
  • Guides to prayer

We all pray differently to the same God.  Sharing our personal prayer experience can help others find their way to deepen their relationship with God.  We are many parts of one body who should be willing to share to strength the whole for the love of each other.

If you missed Why Catholic?  sign-up at church this weekend, call the parish office and speak with Dan Thomas or email him to register. (See the front of the bulletin for his email and phone information.)

Special Attention for PSR Parents:  Why Catholic? is offering an opportunity for parents to attend the Christian Prayer, Deepening my experience of God while your child/children are attending their PSR classes.   We will begin Wednesday October 8th and end on November 12th.  Time will be 7-8 pm. The room for the meeting will be announced later.  This is an opportunity to spend time with other parents in learning and discussion about prayer and prayer forms.  It is also a great example for your children.  It would be great if you could attend all six sessions, however come when you can, it’s okay!

PSR REGISTRATION 2008-09: The final registration date has passed. If you were unable to register yet, we would still like to have your children join the Parish School of Religion. Contact Sandie Hoy or Dan Thomas to register.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered for children, ages 4 through 3rd grade at 5:00 pm Saturday or 10:30 am Sunday Masses. We need several people willing to lead the children in a celebration of the Liturgy of the Word at their level. The Saturday evening Mass has people for 1st & 2nd Sundays only. We also need young people grades 8-12 to be teachers’ aides. The parish provides planning resources for you to use. It is a commitment of about once a month.
